Yoga builds strength, flexibility and balance in body and mind and helps to promote calmness, energy and positivity.
I offer individual tuition and small yoga classes in a yoga studio at my home in Tibberton, near Newport in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
From February 2018 I shall offer classes in the beautiful room within the Buddhist Centre in Queen Street, Castlefields, Shrewsbury.
I believe that yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, flexibility and strength. I teach Hatha yoga in small classes and one-to-one. This means that I am able to make modifications to suit the individual needs of my students.
I first started practicing yoga about 30 years ago when I was working as a midwife. Over the years I have found it has helped me to remain fit and flexible. It has helped me to recover quickly from back and knee injuries, (from sports such as riding, squash, running and netball). I find that yoga relaxation techniques and meditation help me to sleep well and to feel energized.
After retiring from a career in the health service, in the course of which I worked as a nurse, midwife, health-visitor, manager and commissioner, I qualified as a yoga teacher. I hold a Yoga Alliance Teaching Diploma (RYT 200)and a British Wheel of Yoga Teaching certificate.
With my healthcare background I am interested in anatomy and in the growing evidence of how yoga can improve physical and mental health. I attend study days and workshops to extend and deepen my knowledge.
I have completed the York University accredited course, ‘Yoga for healthy lower backs.’ I use skills learnt on this specialist course in the classes to help anyone who has back problems. Currently I am studying with ‘British Wheel of Yoga’ for a further qualification.
I love the countryside, walking, growing food and flowers, cooking and sharing food with friends and family and discovering new ideas and places.
